Alone by Edgar Allan Poe

Read by Shalla DeGuzman.

Edgar Allan Poe, the man who invented the written mystery. A man whose tormented heart stopped beating before his literary mind was able to run its course. At forty he died in poverty … the cause of his death? undetermined but has been attributed to alcohol, drugs, heart disease, and maybe even suicide.
What care I how time advances?
I am drinking ale today.*
~ Edgar Allan Poe

Even from the grave, Poe speaks, in this poem not published until after Poe's death. Written by a man, who as a child, was left motherless and fatherless and had to live with foster parents. During a very sad time, he found himself away from everyone in his lonely apartment and there he writes this poem... Alone.
