Six Sixty Six
|
Larry Norman, who passed away earlier this year, was called the Father of Christian Rock. After spending time cutting top-10 singles with the band "People!" he left the band when presented with a "join Scientology or else" ultimatum from his bandmates. As a solo artist recording with his own label he produced rock-driven Christian music that influenced musicians as widely divergent as the Pixie's Black Francis and members of U2, and even though he's a popular Christian singer, his work is hard to find in Christian stores, because Larry spoke out against racism and poverty and spent his time with those freaky longhairs! Like fellow Christian outsider artist Jack Chick, Norman's work didn't waste time preaching to the choir, but took the message to the streets. Can you imagine? The song presented here, Six Sixty Six,a gloomy meditation on how much things will suck when the Antichrist takes over, was covered by Black Francis. |
