~Laura's employer, Mrs. McKee needs someone to go with her and her daughter Mattie to homestead a claim. They take the train to Manchester and then a wagon to the claim shanty. It is a boring 2 months. Then Laura gets a letter from Ma saying that Mary has come back from collage for a visit and Laura must come home. So Laura leaves Mrs. McKee and her daughter all alone. They have nothing to do except eat and sleep and listen to the prairie winds all summer long. |
